The Flaneur

These are my final pieces which were produced in a series of Lino cuts
in a hand made portfolio, they are based on my extensive surveillance of
people and the attitude and behavior people when in a coffee shops.
They were brought together as a series of 6 lino cuts, under the working
title of The Flaneur, who are infact a group of people who stroll around a city
and allow themselves to experience things without having any pre-attained motive.

"A flaneur is a stroller, a loiterer, someone who ambles through a city without apparent purpose but is secretly attuned to the history of the place and in covert search of aesthetic, adventure or erotic"
Edmund White- The flaneur

The images were bound in a handmade portfolio, which also had
letterpress typography printed on it of the quote extracted from
Edmund White's novel "The Flaneur" quoted above.
This allowed me to experiment with typography, to which here
are some of the outcomes, with the final image being used for
the final piece. Which was printed on a rich, dark blue card on
the inside cover of the portfolio to allow the reader to reference
each print back to its chosen key word within the quote.
